Hadley roof repair project advances
HADLEY - The Select Board voted unanimously Wednesday to approve a $67,400 bid to replace a portion of the roof at the Senior Center.
However, the vote was contingent on approval from the Finance Committee. The funds for the project would come from the town's reserve account and thus require approval from both boards. Town officials have sought to replace the roof after concerns were raised that it would be unable to handle a heavy snow load over the winter months.
The $67,400 bid received from U.S. Metal Roofing of Holyoke was the lowest received, said Town Administrator David Nixon. The work will take place on the building's western side. It will entail replacing the slate and asphalt shingles, as well as rubber membrane along the sloping portion of the roof, with standing seam metal, Nixon said. A flat section of the roof nearby will be replaced with rubber membrane.
Nixon said work could begin with the next few weeks if the Finance Committee approves the vote.
In other news, three new police officers were appointed by the board. They are: Daniel Fernandes, promoted from special officer to full-time officer; Daniel Warner, special officer; and Thomas Harding, special officer. Harding is also the police chief in Shutesbury.
Officer Andrew Reid resigned on Jan. 4 for personal reasons, according to Nixon.
