South Hadley boys basketball upsets Minnechaug

Trevor McKenna knocked down a pair of free throws with nine seconds left and Kevin Garbacik added another as South Hadley knocked off Minnechaug 56-54 at home Tuesday.

McKenna went to the line with the score tied 53-53 and made both shots.

The Falcons (5-3) drew a foul on the ensuing possession, but missed the second of two free throws, which was grabbed by Garbacik, who was quickly fouled. Garbacik made one of his foul shots to push the lead back to two, which is where it ended.

“It was a great win for us against a really solid, well-coached Division 1 team,” South Hadley coach Jeff Guiel said. “I’m really proud of our guys.”

McKenna and Garbacik each finished with six points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers (2-4).
