Assault charges dropped against Hadley officer

HADLEY - Charges against a Hadley police officer, who was charged in connection with an alleged assault on his brother, have been dropped, according to a spokeswoman at Eastern Hampshire Division Court.

The spokeswoman for the Belchertown court said a charge of assault and battery brought against Hadley police officer Andrew Reid, 25, of Amherst, was dismissed last month.

Reid had been arrested Nov. 8 by Belchertown police at the Warner Road home of Reid's brother.

The Hadley officer was placed on administrative leave from his job. It is not known if he has been reinstated to the town's police force.

Hadley Town Administrator David Nixon told the Gazette he would not comment on the matter because it is a personnel issue which had been turned over to Police Chief Dennis Hukowicz.

Hukowicz could not be reached for comment.
