Amherst Regional hockey gives up four-goal lead in tie with Chicopee

The Amherst Regional hockey team couldn't hold on to a four-goal lead and tied Chicopee 6-6 Monday at Orr Rink in Amherst.

The Pacers (3-5-2) scored on a 6-on-5 situation with eight seconds left in the game to net the equalizer. The Hurricanes (3-4-1) were called for a penalty and Chicopee pulled its goalie for the extra skater.

Luke Allen scored three goals and added two assists, while Corey Deres added a pair of goals and assists for Amherst.

Jason Sloat (goal), Shelby Cutting, Gustavo Rodriguez and Sam Lincoln each had one assist, and Eddie Sablak made 32 saves for the Hurricanes, who led 6-2 with 10 minutes left in the game.

South Hadley 5, Central 3 - Short-handed goals by Joe Whalen and Chris Menard (three assists) led the Tigers (7-0, 4-0 Wright) in Springfield.

Spencer Nawrocki, Doug Sattler and Courtney McCrodden also scored goals in the win, while Ben Kravitz (two) and Jeff Beaureguard were credited with assists.

Devin Hoagland made 17 saves in between the pipes for the Tigers to preserve the win.
