The Smith Vocational boys basketball tandem of Jordan Castillo and Allan Rivera have been pretty tough to stop lately.

The duo each scored at least 20 points for the second straight game as the Vikings cruised past Mount Everett 65-45, Wednesday in Northampton.

Castillo and Rivera each had 20 points as Smith (3-0) stayed unbeaten.

The win gave the Vikings their first 3-0 start since the 2003-04 season, when they finished 12-9.

Smith used a 23-10 edge in the third quarter to turn a tight game into a comfortable one. Rivera had 14 rebounds to go with his 20 points, while Sam Sharpe added 16 points.

Castillo had 21 points and Rivera had 20 in a victory over Westfield Vocational on Monday.

Frontier Regional 57, Wahconah 39 - Trailing by one after three quarters Wednesday, the Red Hawks dominate the final eight minutes to improve to 3-0 for the second straight season.

Nate Perret had eight of his nine points, including six of his seven free throws, in the fourth. Paul Decker had a team-high 13 points, while Danny Kieras added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Girls basketball


Hopkins Academy 65, Turners Falls 24 - With Frontier Regional in the stands, the Golden Hawks put on a defensive show in the first half en route to the easy win in Hadley.

Hopkins led 31-4 after the first quarter and 47-5 at halftime. Frontier (1-1, 1-1 Franklin South), which left at halftime, returns tonight to play Hopkins (2-0, 2-0) at 7:30 p.m. in a key early season Franklin County South showdown.

Kelsey Yusko spearheaded the defense, which quickly turned turnovers into points.

Kate Sullivan had a career high 23 points. She surpassed her previous high of 18 with 19 points in the first half alone.

Olivia Mathieu added 14 points, while Mackenzie Sullivan chipped in with 10 points.

Ally Butterfield and Nicole Morrison each finished with four points, the first points of their varsity career.

Hockey


Greenfield 2, Easthampton 2 - The Eagles took a 1-0 and 2-1 lead but the Green Wave came back each time for the tie at Lossone Rink in Easthampton.

Kevin Curran's unassisted goal in the first period gave the Eagles (1-3-1, 0-1-1 Fay) a 1-0 edge.

Tim Dandrea scored from Zach Lewis in the third period to break the 1-1 tie.

Greenfield (2-0-1, 1-0-1) tied the score with 12:39 left in the third.

Matt Sarafin made 26 saves for Easthampton.
