Powers, Cotnoir hit big in openers

Holyoke Catholic 69, Southwick 49 - Nate Powers grabbed 13 rebounds to go with his 40 points for the Gaels (1-0) at home.

Aiden Sullivan scored 12 points on four 3-pointers for Catholic, which hit on 10 shots from beyond the arc.

Nick Limoges (four points) pulled down 10 boards and John McCoy had nine points, four steals and four assists in the win.

Hampshire Regional 71, Ware 61 - Keith Cotnoir snatched 14 rebounds along with his 32 points as the Red Raiders (1-0) won on the road.

Shane Andrews added 21 points and seven assists in the victory, while freshman Conor Cronin had nine points and seven boards in his first varsity game.

Smith Vocational 54, Hopkins Academy 28 - Allan Rivera scored a game-high 16 points as the Vikings cruised in their opener at home.

Sam Sharpe and Jordan Castillo added 14 points each.

Satchel Teixiera led the Golden Hawks with eight points in their opener.

South Hadley 66, Dean Tech 41 - Luis Agrait and Patrick Sears scored 14 points each as the Tigers won their opener at home.

South Hadley's defense held the Golden Hawks to just four first-quarter points and the team led 36-14 at halftime.

Palmer 58, Gateway Regional 37 - Calvin Dowers had 10 points, four rebounds and three blocks for the Gators (0-1) in their season-opening home loss.

Ryan Fisk scored eight points for Gateway, while Austin Cook had four points and a team-high seven rebounds.
