UMass presidential inauguration scheduled
BOSTON (AP) — The University of Massachusetts is inaugurating its new president this week.
An inauguration ceremony for Robert Caret is scheduled Tuesday at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston.
The ceremony will include a procession of academic leaders from across the country and an academic address from William E. Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of Maryland.
Gov. Deval Patrick and UMass Board of Trustees Chairman James Karam will present Caret with the official symbols of office. Caret will deliver an inaugural address.
The inauguration is being funded with private donations and no public money will be spent.
Caret took over the five-campus system on July 1 from retiring Jack Wilson. Caret was previously president of Towson University in Maryland.
