Since joining the fall golf season in 2009, Granby has worked its way up the Bi-County East standings. With their victory over Ware Tuesday, the Rams finally reached the top.

Granby's 20½-3½ win at The Ledges clinched the program's first league title under sixth-year coach Tom Burke. They remain perfect in league play at 9-0 with an overall mark of 10-2.

The Rams finished third in 2009 and second last season.

"It's great to get our first league title," Burke said. "We've come up just short the past three years, so this is pretty rewarding for the players."

Matt Iczkowski fired a 3-under 33 to earn medalist honors. He defeated Curtis Palmer 4-0 in the No. 1 match.

Josh Fernandes, Kevin Sypek, Joe Kass and Pat Moskal also earned individual victories for the Rams.

"Other than winning the league, the great thing about today's match was that our No. 2 through No. 5 players all shot under 45, which is extremely important heading into the tournament."

Another Granby athlete enjoyed a memorable day Thursday as Rams senior cross country standout Abigail Imelio broke her own course record.

Imelio knocked a second off her previous best time, covering the 3.1-mile course at Dufresne Park in 21 minutes, 38 seconds. Younger sister Casey Imelio finished second in the race against Minnechaug, but the Falcons still pulled out a 25-35 victory.
