Jail sentence extended over smuggled pill

NORTHAMPTON - A judge Friday extended by six months the jail sentence of an inmate who smuggled a pill meant to treat heroin addiction into the Hampshire Jail and House of Correction.

Dustin P. Olander, 40, whose last known address was 80 Woodmont Road, Northampton, pleaded guilty in Northampton District Court to possessing a class B drug and disturbing a correctional institution. Judge Jacklyn Connly imposed the sentence, ordering that it begin after one Olander is serving for possession of heroin with intent to distribute. According to court files, Olander March 25 returned to the jail after a work release program with three-quarters of a Suboxone pill hidden in his waistband. "Olander's actions disrupted security and orderly running of the institution," Officer Matthew Garvulenski wrote in court papers.
