UMass women's soccer edges Maine
Two close games in two different sports produced an exhilarating win and a heartbreaking loss Friday at the University of Massachusetts.
At Rudd Field, freshman Moa Mattsson's goal with 2 minutes, 17 seconds left in regulation lifted the women's soccer team past Maine, 1-0.
Mattson's goal, the first of her career, came from 20 yards out.
Emily Cota made one save to earn her second straight shutout as UMass improved to 4-2-1.
Across campus at Garber Field, the UMass field hockey team fell to Northeastern, 2-1 in overtime. The Minutewomen led at halftime on a goal by Renee Suter. But Northeastern tied the game with just over 11 minutes left in regulation.
Carolyn Malloy tipped home the game winner, 6:58 into overtime as UMass fell to 2-4.
Men's soccer
Harvard 1, UMass 0 - The Minutemen played even with Harvard through regulation, but their inability to score continued to haunt them.
Scott Prozeller scored off a corner kick, 5:24 into overtime sending UMass (1-5) home with a defeat in Cambridge.
