Annual golf tournament Saturday to benefit Boy Scouts

NORTHAMPTON - Fore! Yup, it's the sixth annual Metacomet District Boy Scout Golf Tournament Saturday at Pine Grove Golf Course on Wilson Road.

The shotgun start tourney tees off at noon, and features a hole-in-one contest, a longest drive contest, a closest-to-the-pin and a putting competition. Registration's at 11 a.m. It's a scramble format, with a cart, greens fees, lunch and dinner for $100 per player.

Individuals and foursomes are welcome. Proceeds benefit the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venture Scouts and Explorer Scouts of Western Mass.

The Western Mass Council is the local not-for-profit organization chartered to the Boy Scouts of America. The council offices in Chicopee and Pittsfield service Berkshire, Franklin, Hamden and Hampshire Counties, with the Metacomet District directly supporting the Scouts of Hampshire and Franklin Counties. It serves over 2,800 youth in the area, with over 1,000 adult volunteers. Its annual Scouting for Food drive distributes over 40,000 items to area food programs. Each year three percent of Metacomet Scouts earn the Eagle award, Scouting's highest honor.

As for the tournament itself, Pine Grove, at 254 Wilson Road, features 18 holes in a picturesque setting in Florence, with a par of 72.

The course rating is 68.8 and has a slope rating of 121. There will be a dinner and raffle after the tournament at 5:30 p.m. Call Steven Roberts at 531-6720 or 341-0032, ext. 7014 or at GTCScouting@aol.com.
