Amherst softball celebrates senior night with shutout of Northampton
One of the great classes in Amherst Regional softball history celebrated its senior night with a 11-0 win over rival Northampton at Community Field on Thursday.
Zoe Dillon-Davidson went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple, one RBI and one run scored. Emma Mendoker had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Quianna Diaz-Patterson added two hits, including a three-run bomb to deep right field and scored three runs.
Emma Ayres also had two hits and three RBIs, while classmate Catie Childress scored a run for the Hurricanes (18-1).
Mendoker went four innings to earn the win. She allowed one hit and one walk while striking out six and now has 938 career strikeouts.
Junior Brittany Deres (2-for-3, two runs, one RBI) tossed three shutout innings of relief to earn the save. She gave up one hit and one walk and didn't allow a ball to be hit out of the infield.
Kristin Gross and Mary Greco had singles in the loss for Northampton (7-11), while Alexa Pascucci reached base all three times at bat.
Greco took the loss in the circle.
Belchertown 4, Cathedral 3 (10) - Kim Drawec hit a walk-off single in the 10 inning as the Orioles (12-8) outlasted the Panthers.
Sam Manitsas needed just 87 pitches to get through all 10 innings and earn the win. Manitsas struck out five batters and walked none allowing only one hit through the first six innings.
Erinne Dull went 3-for-4 and scored the winning run after leading off the final inning with a double.
Jessica Karrasch had three hits, including an RBI single, and Emily Silva drove in two runs for Belchertown.
Granby 17, Sabis 0 (5) - With the home win, the Rams (14-3, 9-1) clinched a share of the Bi-County East, their first league title since 1994.
Taylor Johnson hit a three-run home run and added an RBI double in the win. Brie Englebrecht went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Alex White was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
Tessa Cote tossed a four-hit shutout, striking out five and walking none.
Frontier Regional 9, Athol 4 - Angelica Perfido drove in two runs on three hits and scored twice to lead the Red Hawks (14-5, 11-4 Franklin), who scored all nine runs in the first two innings in South Deerfield.
Mel Stier chipped in with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Abbie Fydenkevez pitched the first four innings to earn the win, and Krystel Enko came on in relief, striking out three and giving up just one run the rest of the way to earn the save.
Monson 2, Holyoke Catholic 1 - The Gaels (6-11, 2-7 Bi-County East) stranded 18 runners on base and fell on a seventh-inning walk-off hit at Monson.
Megan Logan pitched well in taking the loss. She allowed just three hits and one earned run in seven innings, striking out four and walking three.
Norah Silvester had two hits and scored the Gaels' lone run on a single by Shannon O'Driscoll. Abbey Craig also had a pair of hits in the loss.
Southwick 6, Smith Academy 3 - Allison Slysz and Megan Wendolowski each had two hits, and Alyssa Klepacki smacked her fifth home run of the season but it wasn't enough as the Falcons (1-13, 0-9 Bi-County West) fell in Hatfield.
Miranda Wendolowski and Danielle Duseau each had one hit in the loss.
