Tilly Taylor leads Frontier girls to second at Division 2 track & field meet

BUCKLAND - Tilly Taylor won the javelin with a distance of 121 feet, 8 inches to lead the Frontier Regional girls track & field team to a second-place finish at the Western Massachusetts Division 2 Championship Thursday at Mohawk Trail.

"I just focus on myself," Taylor, the top seed and defending all-WMass champion said. "I try not to think about anyone else because if I start worrying about other people it negatively affects me."

The Red Hawks had a number of athletes with top three finishes.

Katherine Miner took second in the high jump (4-10) and Cassie Ovitt took second in the pole vault (8-0). Beth Drake finished third in the 400-meter low hurdles (1 minute, 09.32 seconds), Amy Graham took third in the 2-mile (12:11.25), Mary Shaw placed third in the pole vault (8-0) and Clare Cycz placed third in the high jump (4-10).

Mount Greylock won the championship while Holyoke Catholic placed third. Alisha Ciolek won the 100 hurdles in 15.9 seconds and was also part of the Gaels' first-place 4x100 relay team that included Katy O'Hara, Ashley Beaulieu and Hailey Cox. The relay won in 52.23 seconds. Cox added a win in the triple jump (36-4½), while Staci Rezendes won the 2-mile (11:54.98) and Jenn Cardinal won the 800 (2:26.61).

Mahar won the boys championship while Frontier finished third. The Red Hawks picked up a second-place finish from Jack Fleury in the 400 hurdles (59.11), while Brad Tremblay took third in the high jump (6-0) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.27). Clement Watroba finished third in the shot put (42-11), Austin Watroba placed third in the 100 (11.75), Matt Fortune took third in the 800 (2:07.23), and Tim Eve-Cowles placed third in the pole vault (10-6).

Trevor Lewicki won the high jump (6-0) for Holyoke Catholic, while Anthony Hoskin of Hampshire Regional took second in the pole vault at 11-0. Jon Labrie placed third in the 110 hurdles at 16.88 seconds for Hampshire.
