Dan Kane gives Northampton baseball win in ninth inning
Dan Kane's ninth-inning single chased Jake Laga home with the game winner as the Northampton baseball team edged South Hadley 6-5 in extra innings.
Laga led off the inning with a single, then stole second and advanced to third on a groundout.
Mack Hale and Michael Jasinski each had two hits and two RBIs for the Blue Devils (7-8, 5-1 Suburban). Chris Tacy's RBI single tied it up in the sixth.
Bryan Borges-Vega blanked the Tigers over the final 3-2/3 innings to earn the victory.
Nate Bergeron had a run-scoring single for the Tigers (3-11, 2-4), who took advantage of six Hamp errors. Connor Abert picked up a pair of hits in the loss.
Northampton's Andrew Sadowski and South Hadley's Joey Harris both had solid starting outings but received no-decisions.
Agawam 7, Amherst Regional 2 - The Hurricanes (11-5, 2-4 Valley League) allowed four runs in the top of the first and couldn't recover in the home loss.
Asher Young pitched a complete game for the 'Canes. He gave up five earned runs, struck out seven and walked just one.
Steffen Herter had a hit, a stolen base and a run scored for Amherst. Jay Lincoln had a hit and an RBI, while Jared Freedman knocked in Justin Carey with a single.
McCann Tech 7, Granby 6 - The Rams (13-2, 8-2 Tri-County North) scored five runs in their last two at-bats but fell short at home.
Sean Sheridan had three hits, including a home run. He scored three runs and drove in a pair. Zach Cloutier also had three hits with two RBI and a run scored.
Adam Majka took the loss for Granby, striking out seven in six innings of work.
Gateway Regional 7, Lee 2 - Tyler Pease went the distance and allowed just one earned run as the Gators (9-5) were victorious at home.
Pease allowed just four hits, walked two and fanned one in seven innings.
Ray Bressette (two RBIs, run), Kyle Bartlett (two RBIs) and Gabe Craig (two runs) had two hits apiece in the win. Jeremy Tanguay knocked in two with a triple and also scored once.
Frontier Regional 5, Mohawk 3 - The Red Hawks (8-7, 7-5 Hampshire) raced out to a four-run lead after three innings and held on for the home victory.
Brad Bean pitched the first six innings and picked up the win. He allowed three runs on five hits, walked one and fanned eight.
At the plate, Bean went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Rylan Bironas also enjoyed a 2-for-3 day with three RBIs. Mike Ames scored twice, and Keith Spencer had an RBI single.
Central 6, Belchertown 5 - The Orioles trailed 6-1 early and couldn't complete the comeback at home.
Mike Foley had two hits and drove in two runs for Belchertown (4-11, 2-4 Suburban), while Dillon O'Connor had a solo home run in the fourth.
