Hirschfeld scores eight goals, including winner for Amherst girls lacrosse
Of the 23 goals Amherst Regional junior Cora Hirschfeld has scored in the last three games, none was more dramatic as the last one she notched on Friday against Belchertown.
In a back-and-forth girls lacrosse affair in Amherst, Hirschfeld came around the back of the net and fired a shot high past Belchertown goalie Alicia Beaupre to give the Hurricanes a 13-12 win.
It was Hirschfeld's eighth goal of the contest.
The Orioles had a chance to tie the game on an 8-meter shot with 30 seconds left, but goalie Lydi Cohen (13 saves) made the save to preserve the win.
Melanie Sharick had two goals and Olivia Holcomb added a goal and three assists for Amherst while Teagan Fleiner-Etheridge and Emma Biggs each scored one.
Stefanie Dufresne had three goals, including the tying goal that made it 12-12 late. Brianna Del Valle and Natalie Caney each had three goals. Breanna Allen added two and goals and Kayla Panek scored one for the Orioles.
Northampton 16, Westfield 6 - Emily King had five goals and two assists as the Blue Devils (11-2) cruised at home.
Johanna Fleming added three goals and three assists, while Emily Allcroft, Shannon Keefe (three assists) and Sierra Hart each scored two goals.
Meghan Harrington and Ashley Babcock scored once each.
Kyla Power made 10 saves in the victory.
