Starcun's blast powers Eagles baseball over Pioneer Regional
Down to the last pitch, Chris Starcun gave the Easthampton baseball team new life against Pioneer Regional.
Starcun tied the game on a two-out, two-strike three-run homer and the Eagles won 8-7 in nine innings Friday at Daley Field.
No. 7-hitter Tad Boruchowski hit a one-out flair to second base with the bases loaded in the ninth. The throw home pulled the catcher off the plate and Kyle Dussault scored the winning run.
Dussault finished with three hits and three runs while Thomas Lucia had a two-run double in the fourth inning. Anthony Szol added two hits.
Dussault earned the win with 4-1/3 innings of relief. He struck out four and walked three.
Matt Gilbert struck out one and walked one in 4-2/3 innings for the Eagles (9-3, 7-2 Hampshire), who moved within a win of qualifying for the postseason.
With hopes of minimizing the Panthers' potent offense, the game was moved from tiny Booster Field at Nonotuck Park to the more spacious Daley Field outside the park's entrance. The results varied.
