The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team was a buzzer-beating shot away from an upset and perhaps its biggest win of the season Wednesday.

But Duquesne's Alex Gensler's running 3-pointer from well behind the line banked in as time expired to force overtime.

The Dukes controlled the extra session and edged UMass, 82-79, Tuesday at the Mullins Center.

Dee Montgomery (13 points, seven assists, six rebounds) hit two free throws with two seconds left in regulation to stretch UMass' lead to 73-70. But Duquesne inbounded to Gensler (27 points) just before halfcourt and she drove in for her dramatic shot.

Cerie Mosgrove led UMass (6-17, 2-6 Atlantic 10) with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Jasmine Watson added 18 points and nine rebounds.

Vanessa Abel had 18 for the Dukes (19-3, 6-1 A-10).
