The Daily Hampshire Gazette Fall All-Star Series continues with boys cross country and girls volleyball.
The cross country scene was dominated by Northampton, which captured its first ever Division 1 sectional championship. The Blue Devils, who placed three runners in the top five, four in the top eight and five in the top 12, were led by Harrison Hunter. The senior placed first in 16 minutes, 25 seconds to claim his first major meet championship.
One of the best girls volleyball players in the state plays for the best team in the state. Sophomore Cassidy Stankowski led Frontier Regional, which simply dominated the competition. The Red Hawks finished 26-0 and as State Division 3 champions. They beat Division 1 state champion Barnstable during the season, and beat Division 2 state champ Medfield during a play date. They also beat WMass Division 2 champ Longmeadow and 2009 state D-1 champ New Bedford.
Stankowski was named to the D-3 All-State team and the Massachusetts Coaches All-Star team. She finished with an impressive 302 kills and 39 aces.
