Minutewomen rally for win over Miami of Ohio

The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team wiped out another big deficit for its second straight win as the Minutewomen defeated Miami (Ohio) 78-72 Tuesday at the Mullins Center.

The return of Jasmine Watson continued to lift UMass. The sophomore center led UMass (3-9) with 12 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. Cerie Mosgove added 18 points and seven rebounds, while Dee Montgomery had 16 points and six assists.

The Red Hawks led 26-9 just past the midway point of the first half. The Minutemen finished the half on an 8-2 run to grab momentum at intermission.

It carried into the second half. A layup by Montgomery tied the game at 41-41, but Miami recovered and pulled back ahead 58-51.

The Minutewomen answered with a 16-2 surge that put them up 67-60 with 3:29 remaining. UMass made enough free throws down the stretch to hold on.

The Minutewomen will try to stretch its winning streak to three games on Dec. 29 at Maine.
