GLOUCESTER (AP) - A 67-year-old Massachusetts man is dead after falling into the ocean while apparently fishing from the shore in Gloucester.
The Gloucester Daily Times reports that rescuers on Tuesday pulled at least a dozen other people from dangerous offshore riptides and coastal undertows in the area.
Police have identified the dead man as Nicholas Roussos, of Belmont. He fell from a rock in Eastern Point, was pulled off the waters and was first taken to the Coast Guard station in Gloucester for emergency treatment before he was rushed Addison Gilberg Hospital.
Mayor Carolyn Kirk has issued an emergency declaration giving lifeguards the authority to shut down areas to swimming.
