Scorching Tigers top Lancers again

The South Hadley boys lacrosse team wrapped up an impressive eight-day stretch with a 12-9 win over rival Longmeadow at home Friday night.
On May 7, South Hadley defeated the perennial powerhouse Lancers on the road 13-12 in overtime. The Tigers followed that up by handing West Springfield its first loss of the season 16-10 on the road Tuesday before knocking off the Lancers a second time under the lights.
On Friday, Chris Menard led South Hadley with four goals and two assists, Luke Dilisio added two goals and four assists and Ben Menard contributed two goals and one assist.
Zak Guenther (one assist), Alex Ortensi (one assist), Ryan Dickinson and Max Hebert each scored one goal for the Tigers.
Goaltender Sean Mackey posted 14 saves for South Hadley, which led 6-5 through the third quarter.
Amherst Regional 8, Westfield 4 - The Hurricanes opened a 4-1 lead at halftime and rolled over the Bombers at home.
Alex Bloom led Amherst with three goals and two assists, Walker Nambu added two goals and two assists, Zach Jackson scored twice and Ben Brassord had a goal and an assist.
Ezra Ward made seven saves in goal for the Hurricanes (7-8, 1-4 Valley Wheel).
Cathedral 10, Belchertown 6 - The Orioles (0-12, 0-7 Valley League) blanked the Panthers in the second and third quarters, but it was not enough to win at home.
Chris Lamoureux and Joey Shaw scored two goals each for Belchertown, and Peter Keefe and Ryan Jopson each added one.
Ian Sypek made eight saves in goal for the Orioles.
Girls lacrosse
Amherst Regional 4, Belchertown 1 - Melanie Sharick scored twice and that was enough for the Hurricanes (6-8, 5-1 Valley League) in Belchertown.
Leah Goldman and Sarah Mangels each added goals in the fifth straight win for the Hurricanes.
Kate Goldstein had seven saves in goal for Amherst.
Amy Rumanowski had the lone goal for the Orioles (1-9, 1-3) one day after the program's first-ever varsity win.
Belchertown goalie Sam Teehan made 18 saves.
South Hadley 17, Cathedral 2 - The Tigers (6-6, 4-0 Valley League) had 12 different players score goals as they cruised at home.
Katie Cavanaugh scored three times for South Hadley and Nora McDonough, Mia Scagliarini and Katelyn LaBrie (one assist) each had two goals.
Maddie Brandts, Lauren Barthelette (one assist), Tessa Holmes (assist), Katie Tierney, Alicia Calkins, Madeline Dowd, Allie Boulais and Juliette Chenier each scored once for South Hadley.
Lindsay Brandts made seven saves in goal for the Tigers.
