Deerfield defeats Tigers girls lacrosse
The South Hadley girls lacrosse team dropped its season opener Wednesday, falling 15-9 at Deerfield Academy.
Martha Hamlin led the Tigers with three goals.
Katie Cavanaugh scored two goals for South Hadley, while Abby Lemanski and Nora McDonough each contributed a goal and an assist.
Maddie Brandts and Juliette Chenier scored the other goals for the Tigers.
South Hadley goalie Lindsay Brandts made 13 saves.
Hallie Dewey scored five goals for Deerfield (1-0), and Maddy Keeshan added three.
Boys volleyball
East Longmeadow 3, Belchertown 0 - The Orioles lost for the first time this season, getting swept 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 at East Longmeadow (1-1).
T.J. Leblanc had six kills and two blocks for Belchertown (3-1), and Tyler Keefe added six blocks and two kills.
James Law contributed three blocks and two kills for the Orioles, and Mike Wood chipped in with two blocks and one kill.
Girls water polo
Deerfield Academy 13, Williston Northampton School 5 - Reiko Akimoto of Haydenville scored a goal and added three steals for the Wildcats (0-1) in their season opener at Deerfield.
Hannah Oleksak scored three goals and had two steals for Williston, and Sarah Fay of South Hadley had the other goal for the Wildcats.
