Chicopee man, 28, found dead at the Notch
AMHERST - The body of a Chicopee man missing since Monday was located at the Mount Holyoke State Range Park Friday morning.
The 28-year-old man's body was discovered at 10:40 a.m., about 90 minutes after the search began, said police Capt. Jennifer Gundersen.
"We don't suspect any foul play," Gundersen said.
The man's identity is not being released pending notification of his family.
Gundersen said police, acting on a tip from a person who knew the man had not gone into work on Thursday, located the man's vehicle parked at the Notch Visitors Center on West Street. With the assistance of a state police K-9 unit, police spent nearly four hours scouring the woods Thursday night and early Friday morning before resuming the search in the daylight.
Amherst police officers on foot were joined by Granby, Hadley and state police and officials with the Department of Conservation and Recreation. A state police helicopter was en route but was called off when the body was found.
This marked the third time in recent years a person was found dead at the state park.
In 2007, MIT student Ryan Davis, of Hingham, was reported missing in April from Mount Holyoke College and his body was found at the end of May by hikers about 50 feet off a trail.
In September 2008, the body of Hatfield native and businessman Brooks Corbett was located on the top of Bare Mountain.
In both previous cases, police determined there was no foul play.
