UMass baseball team loses season opener

The University of Massachusetts baseball team led after five innings in its season opener Friday before Oklahoma State rallied for a 5-3 win in Stillwater, Okla.
Brian Baudinet put the Minutemen (0-1) ahead with a home run to right field on the second pitch of the game.
Eric Fredette (2-for-4) and Peter Copa each had one run batted in for UMass, and Mike Donato also went 2-for-4.
Dean Green put the Cowboys (5-2) ahead for good with a three-run homer to center in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Minuteman starting pitcher Jared Freni took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five in 5-1/3 innings.
The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Saturday.
