The season ended Friday for the University of Massachusetts women's basketball team which lost 54-47 to Richmond in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament in Upper Marlboro, Md.

The ninth-seeded Minutewomen (11-19) led 24-23 at halftime, but the No. 8 Spiders (19-11) took the lead for good with the first six points of the second half.

Diatiema Hill led UMass with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals, and Jasmine Watson, the A-10 rookie of the year, added nine points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Richmond advances to play top-seeded Xavier in the quarterfinals at noon Saturday.
