Gaels clinch league title
Annie Broda continued her strong recent play and led the Holyoke Catholic girls basketball team to a league title-clinching 53-42 victory over McCann Tech at Holyoke Community College Wednesday.
Broda scored a game-high 17 points, including four 3-pointers, and has 52 in her last three games for Catholic (11-9, 8-0 Bi-County West).
Kaitlin Veit added 11 points, while Sarah Dingee had 10 for the Gaels, who led 38-34 going into the fourth quarter.
Broda and Dingee scored six each for Catholic and Meghan Connolly (four points) made two big free throws down the stretch to ice the game.
The Gaels end the season having won eight of their last nine after beginning the season 3-8.
Hopkins Academy 66, St. Joseph's 21 - One night after losing by 37 points, the Golden Hawks (15-5) were on the other side of an overwhelming result in their regular season finale at home.
Gabrielle Pelissier led the team with 12 points, while Emma Konienczy added 10 in the win. Seventh-grade twin sisters Kate and Mackenzie Sullivan each added nine points for Hopkins, which lost to rival Smith Academy 58-21 on Tuesday.
Ware 63, Granby 25 - Brooke Labrie and Tori Cebula scored six points each for the Rams (3-16, 0-8 Bi-County Central) in the loss at Ware.
Ashley Barnish had three points, four assists and four steals for Granby.
Chicopee Comp 2, Easthampton 1 - Needing a win to keep their postseason hopes alive, the Eagles (5-8-6) pulled goalie Matt Dziok in the closing minutes of a 1-1 game.
The Colts took advantage with the game-winner and Easthampton was eliminated from postseason contention with the loss at Williston.
Greg Pion scored on an assist by Andrew Lafosse for the Eagles' lone goal of the game.
Dziok finished with 23 saves.
