Northampton indoor track undefeated

The Northampton boys and girls indoor track and field teams ended the regular season undefeated on Friday.

The girls defeated Agawam 64-31 and beat Chicopee Comp 85-10 at Smith College to finish 9-0 in the Pioneer League.

The boys beat Agawam 80-15 and Comp 67-28 and also finished 9-0 in the Pioneer.

Both teams are the defending Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference champions. The championship meet is next Friday at Smith College.

"They're motivated to go out and win next week," Blue Devils coach Nate Kraft said. "We've been gearing toward it all year."

In the final PVIAC regular-season meet on Friday, Natalia Paine placed first overall in the 300 and 1,000, and Charlotte Lellman won the mile.

Molly Brooks broke her own school record in the shot put with a winning throw of 35 feet, two inches.

The 4x200 relay team of Casey Keedy, Emily King, Leah Thompkins and Maddie Brennan also placed first.

Meanwhile the boys had five first-place finishers.

D.J. Fuentes won the 55 dash, Mike Mailloux took the 600, Alex Sullivan placed first in the 1,000 and Sam Coates-Finke won the mile.

The 4x200 relay of Fuentes, Dominik Likins, Willis Rayton and Kieran Bourgeois also won.

Northampton showed its depth in the shot put, taking four of the top six places.
