Janna Weimann, longtime attendant nurse
HUNTINGTON - Janna W. Weimann, 74, of Huntington, died Jan. 7, 2010, in Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
She was born in Lienden, Netherlands on March 17, 1935, the daughter of the late Antonie and Janna (Onink) van Ewijk. She came to the United States in 1960. She was employed as an attendant nurse at Northampton State Hospital until 1980, when she was employed by the Holyoke Soldiers' Home until her retirement in 1992. Her hobbies were gardening, knitting, crocheting, listening to music and doing her puzzles. Janna enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She supported many charities, including the American Heart Association and the Veterans Association.
Her husband of 41 years, Franz K. Weimann; son Hans O. Weimann; and daughter Johanna Weimann predeceased her. Janna is survived by a daughter, Janna C. Barcomb and husband Charles of Easthampton; four sons, James B. Weimann and wife Sue of Huntington, Laurenz F. Weimann of Holyoke, Phillip F. Weimann of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jacobus M. Weimann and wife Brenda of West Springfield; several sisters and brothers in the Netherlands; and eight grandchildren, Lisa, Heather, and Christopher Barcomb, Wolfgang and Aramis Weimann, Benjamin Gormely, Philip Weimann and Martin Weimann; she also leaves behind her companion of many years, her dog, Bruno.
A memorial service will be Thursday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Easthampton.
