The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team could not complete a second-half rally and lost 65-49 to Maine Sunday afternoon at the Mullins Center.

The Minutewomen (6-8) took their only lead at 23-22 with three minutes, 36 seconds left in the first half before the Black Bears (4-8) scored the last eight points before internmission.

After Maine expanded its lead to 16 early in the second half, UMass got back in the game with a 17-2 run that made the score 45-44 with 5:36 left. However, the Black Bears scored the next 13 points to seal the victory.

Kristina Danella scored 12 points to lead the Mintuewomen, Nicole Jones added 11 with seven rebounds and Jasmine Watson had 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and a block.

UMass hosts Harvard at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader at the Mullins Center, followed by the men's team playing Fordham at 7:30.
