Marie Sobasko, longtime Hadley resident
HADLEY - Marie L. Sobasko, 77, of 9 Chmura Road in Hadley, passed away on Sunday evening, Dec. 20, 2009, at Calvin Coolidge Nursing and Rehab.
She was born in Northampton on May 10, 1932, the daughter of the late Brinton and Mary (Pratt) Baker. She was raised and educated in Amherst, attending schools there and graduating from Amherst High School. She met and married her husband of 57 years, Charles Sobasko Sr., and the moved to Hadley and resided here ever since.
In their early years Marie and Charlie worked together on the family farm, raising sweet corn, potatoes, tobacco, asparagus and other vegetables. Marie also worked as a dispatcher for many years with the Hadley Police Department. She enjoyed spending time with her family; she loved to bowl and especially enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
She leaves her husband of 57 years, Charles Sobasko Sr. She was predeceased by a son, Charles Sobasko Jr., in 2000. She leaves two sons, Robert Sobasko, and Thomas Sobasko and his wife, Susan, of Hadley, and her daughter-in-law, Maureen Tudryn of Hadley; her siblings, Robert Baker Sr. of Palmer, Donald Baker Sr. of Gill, Nancy Jackson of Montague, Linda Coy of Greenfield, and Elaine Bryzway of Bernardston; and four grandchildren, Leanne, Anthony, Shelby and Jacob; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by several siblings, Brinton Baker, Carol Maynard and Shirley Podoski.
Funeral services will be private with burial in Holy Rosary Cemetery in the spring. There are no calling hours. The family asks that donations in Marie's memory be made to the Hadley Police Dept., 15 East St., Hadley, MA 01035.
