Holyoke extends unbeaten streak to 14
The defending state Division 3A champion Holyoke hockey team has picked up where it left off at the end of last season. The Purple Knights on Saturday extended their unbeaten streak to 14 straight going back to last season.
They improved to 3-0 this season with a 6-1 win over Easthampton at home.
Shawn O'Donnell scored two goals and was one of four players with multiple points for Holyoke. The others were Chris Menard (one goal, two assists), Cody Miller (one, one) and Brian Rokowski (two assists).
Luke Dilisio and Derek Pinciak each added a goal, and Rob Archambault, Jody Harris, Tyler Hersom and Spencer Nawrocki all had one assist.
Tadd Goff made 17 saves in goal for the Purple Knights.
Shawn Warren scored for the Eagles (0-2), and Zach Swanson had the assist.
Easthampton goaltender Matt Dziok made 43 saves.
Amherst Regional 3, Agawam 2 - Steffen Herter and Justin Satkowski each had a goal and an assist as the Hurricanes (2-1, 2-1 Fay) earned the win in West Springfield.
Cameron Mathieu also scored for Amherst, while Greg Mathieu and Corey Deres added assists.
Alex McGeoch finished with 25 saves in goal for the Hurricanes.
Turners Falls 5, Chicopee Comp 1 - Trevor Berman's hot start continued as the Indians (2-1-1, 2-1 Wright) turned a 1-1 tie after the first period into a decisive win at home in Greenfield.
Berman netted a hat trick and now has seven goals in the first four games of the season.
Kyle Platner added the other two goals for Turners, while Steve Ferro and Ryan Sullivan were each credited with a pair of assists.
Keegan Downie, Travis Holloway, Jake Lapean, Brandon Lewis and Cameron Porter all had one assist for the Indians.
Turners Falls goaltender Will Miller made 43 saves.
Elvin Rodriguez of Northampton finished second in the 135-pound weight class at the Early Bird Tournament in Longmeadow on Saturday.
Gary Shea of Longmeadow defeated Rodriguez 8-2 in the final.
Rodriguez recorded pins of Uri Shatil of Brookline, John Lebron of Central and Devon Purdue of Fermi in the first three rounds.
Lucca Reiter of the Blue Devils also went 3-1 and finished third in the 130-pound class.
Reiter defeated Mick Husovsky of Fermi 12-7 in the third-place match. Reiter earlier had an 11-2 decision over Husovsky, pinned Cameron Servantez of Minnechaug and lost a 10-4 decision to Mark Correa of Central, the eventual runner-up at 130 pounds.
And Jake Intrator of Northampton finished 2-2 for fourth place in the 112-pound class. Intrator defeated Jerry Phok of Brookline 8-2 and Joe Chambors of Westfield 12-0, and lost two decisions to Dylan Mancini of Minnechaug.
- Alex Dumais of South Hadley won the 189-pound weight class at the Tyngsboro Tournament on Saturday. He defeated Conor Johnston of Frontier Regional 4-1 in the final.
