Sophie Dizek, owned Stanley's Bakery

SOUTH DEERFIELD - Sophie T. (Liguz) Dizek, 94, of 3-D Elm St., South Deerfield, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 2, 2009, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Warren on Feb. 9, 1915, the daughter of Peter and Katheryn Javoski Liguz, Sr. Sophie was educated in schools there and was later married to Anthony J. Ostrowski on June 27, 1937, in Warren. All of their married life was in South Deerfield. Anthony predeceased her in 1972. She later married Stanley Dizek and he later predeceased her.

Sophie was a baker who owned and operated Stanley's Bakery on Elm Street in South Deerfield until her retirement. She was a member of the Holy Family Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Society and a former member of the Auxiliary Polish Americans Citizens Club.

Sophie is survived by a son, Anthony E. Ostrowski and his wife Edie of South Deerfield; a daughter, Phyllis Perry of Conway; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Peter and Theodore Liguz; four sisters, Theresa Strezelski, Rose Kursava-Resnick, Helen Maida and Josephine Liguz.

A funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church, celebrated by the Rev. Philippe Roux. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours at Wrisley Funeral Home will be Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Donations in her memory may be made to Frontier Senior Center, North Main Street, South Deerfield, MA 01373 or Shriners Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
