Eagles win but fail to make playoffs

The Easthampton football team did what it needed to do to qualify for the postseason on Thursday, soundly defeating Dean Tech 42-6 in Holyoke.

But the Eagles (4-6, 4-3 Tri-County) were still eliminated from playing in the Western Massachusetts Division 4 Tournament when Belchertown defeated Pathfinder. That gave Mohawk Trail (4-6) the fourth and final spot in the playoffs.

Jared Bean scored three touchdowns and Shane Andrews had two more for Easthampton in its first Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Golden Hawks.

The Eagles got on the board in the first quarter when Bean returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown.

Andrews then scored twice in the second quarter, before Bean had scores in the third and fourth quarter to push the lead to 36-0.

Dean Tech (2-9, 2-5) finally got on the board when Emmanuel Andujar broke free for a 70-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Phillips completed the scoring with a 19-yard touchdown run for Easthampton.
