UNH rallies over UMass women's hoop

The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team led New Hampshire by as many as 18 points before losing 58-57 Friday night in Durham, N.H.

The Minutewomen (1-2) committed 11 of 27 turnovers and 10 of 18 fouls in a second half marked by poor shooting and rebounding.

Redshirt junior guard Megan Zullo and sophomore forward Kristina Danella led UMass with 14 points apiece. Zullo and sophomore guard Cerie Mosgrove (12 points) were each four-of-seven from 3-point range.

The Minutewomen led 46-28 just three minutes into the second half.

However, the Wildcats (2-1) put together a 10-0 run in the next six minutes of the game to get back in the game.

UMass lost the lead with six minutes remaining when UNH guard Candace Williams made two free throws. She led all scorers with 17 points.

After Danella made two free throws with 39 seconds left, the Minutewomen held their last lead at 57-56.

The Wildcats ran the clock down to 12 seconds and Jill MacDonald was fouled when she drove into the paint. She made both free throws for the final score.

UMass hosts Villanova at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mullins Center.
