James Marcou gives UMass overtime win

James Marcou scored with one minute, one second remaining in overtime to give the University of Massachusetts hockey team a 4-3 victory over Yale Thursday night in New Haven, Conn.

Marcou's shot defelcted off Bulldog defenseman Jimmy martin and into the net past goaltender Nick Maricic (32 saves) to give the 11th-ranked Minutemen (8-2) their second overtime win of the season.

T.J. Syner, who was playing in his frist game for UMass since Oct. 31, scored with 9:58 to play in regulation to send the game to overtime.

No. 9 Yale (2-2-2) led 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Denny Kearney.

The Minutemen took a 2-1 lead after two periods on scores by Michael Marcou and Casey Wellman.

The Bulldogs went back ahead on goals 70 seconds apart in the third period by Sean Backman and Broc Little, setting up the late-game comeback by UMass.

Minuteman goaltender Dan Meyers had 28 saves.

UMass plays at No. 17 Vermont at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
