Richard Bodin, golfer, dog lover
NORTHAMPTON - Richard L. "Dick" Bodin, 85, of North Maple Street in Florence, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at his home.
Born March 26, 1924, in Northampton, he was the son of the late Dr. Leroy G. and Anna G. (Hoffman) Bodin.
Dick graduated from Northampton High School and later received his bachelor's degree in social sciences from American International College. A veteran of World War II, Dick served as a tech sergeant in the U.S. Army.
He retired as purchasing agent for Ampad Corp. of Holyoke in 1986. He had previously worked as a purchasing agent for the former Pro Brush Co., Chart-Pak and the Breck Co.
Dick was an avid golfer and had been a longtime member of the Worthington Golf Club. He was also a 50-year member of the Florence Congregational Church. Dick loved dogs and had several English setters during his lifetime. He also was an avid reader and especially enjoyed military and espionage novels.
Dick was predeceased by his sister, Ruth E. Bellinger in 2004. He is survived by his nephew, Gary R. Bellinger of Southbridge, and also by his niece, Jane A. Bellinger of Florence.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Spring Grove Cemetery in Florence. There are no calling hours.
