Conrad Brisson, awarded Purple Heart
EASTHAMPTON - Conrad P. Brisson, 78, of Clark Street in Easthampton, passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
Born Sept. 27, 1931, in Northampton, he was the son of the late Conrad and Frances (Popielarczyk) Brisson. He was educated in the Easthampton schools and was a graduate of Easthampton High School.
Conrad was a U.S. Army veteran serving with Company G 65th Infantry Regiment APO 468 in the Korean War. For his service and for wounds received in battle, Conrad was awarded the Purple Heart for actions that he undertook on Hill 412 in North Korea on June 14, 1953.
Conrad was employed for 28 years with the Milton Bradley Co. in East Longmeadow. He was a member of the Dalton LaVallee American Legion Post #244 and the Eugene McCarthy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post# 3422, both in Easthampton, the Military Order of the Purple Heart Society, the Korean War Veterans of Western Mass in Chicopee, the 3rd Division outpost Harry Survivors Association, and the DAV Chapter 92 in Holyoke.
Conrad was a past chairman and an active volunteer with the Easthampton Community Center and was a longtime cooperator of the Emily Williston Memorial Library Association.
He leaves his beloved wife of 28 years, Catherine (Crean) Brisson; his loving daughter, Karen Branco, and her husband, Ralph, of Ludlow; his grandson, Tyler J. Branco; his sister-in-law, Laura Rollet, and her husband, Richard, of Palmer; his brother-in-laws Addison F. Kenyon of Monson, and Joseph Jambora of Palmer; and several nieces and nephews.
A military funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 17 Clark St., Easthampton, followed by burial in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m.
