William Mazeski, computer systems analyst
Florence - William F. Mazeski, 60, of 51 Chestnut St., passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at home.
Born in Northampton on March 24, 1949, he was the son of the late Charles and Muriel (Schuman) Mazeski. He was educated in Northampton schools and was a 1966 graduate of Northampton High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Air Force and served for seven years, including two tours in Vietnam, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. After the war, Bill got his plumbers license and worked for his brother's company, Charles Plumbing and Heating, for 20 years. He went back to college, attending Westfield State College and graduating at the age of 45 with high honors in 1994. He worked for Package Machinery in East Longmeadow before becoming a computer systems analyst for Constellation Solutions in Springfield, where he worked for 12 years until his retirement in September.
He was member of the VFW Post 8006 in Florence and the World War II Veterans' Club in Northampton. He loved computers, the lottery and trips to Foxwoods. He also loved music, played the accordion, and taught himself how to play the guitar. He later would give music lessons to his nieces and nephews. He and his wife Debra also enjoyed taking riverboat trips.
Bill is survived by his wife of 35 years, Debra A. (Sweeney) Mazeski; his brother, Charles J. Mazeski of Northampton; his sister, Kathleen Long of Florence; 11 nieces and nephews, one stepnephew, two stepnieces, 16 grandnieces and grandnephews and his beloved pets Crumbs, Cup Cake and Bosco.
A committal service with military honors will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
Calling hours will precede the service Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Road, Northampton. Memorial donations may be made to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 319, South Deerfield, MA 01373-0319.
