Wallace MacDonald, longtime VA employee

SOUTHAMPTON - Wallace J. MacDonald, 80, of Mountain View Circle, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, in Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 16, 1928, in Northampton the son of the late Francis and Mildred Anderson MacDonald. He graduated from the former St. Michael's High School in Northampton with honors in the Class of 1946. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948, being discharged with the rank of sergeant in 1952. He was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital in Leeds, retiring in 1985.

Wallace is survived by his wife, Frances Blackbird MacDonald; and one sister, Sister Norma with the Sisters of St. Joseph in Holyoke.

He was predeceased by one brother, Robert MacDonald, and two sisters, Patricia and Barbara MacDonald.

The funeral will be Friday, Nov. 13, at 11:15 a.m. from the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Church at noon. Burial will be in St. Brigid's Cemetery, all of Easthampton. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. Memorial gifts in Wallace's memory may be given to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, 163 Montague Road, Leverett, MA.
