GOSHEN - Carolyn Fay Andrews Carver, 78, of Berkshire Trail West, passed away on Nov. 4, 2009 at her home.

Born in Adams on Dec. 18, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Edson and Ora (Remington) Andrews. Carolyn was a graduate of Adams High School. She was a homemaker, first and foremost, raising her two children, Gary and Fern.

Of all her many jobs, raising her children made her the most proud. Her many job experiences have been: volunteering for the town of Goshen's assessor's office; working for the Goshen Public Library; assistant manager at Annie's Attic in Haydenville from 1986 to 1993; cashier at Brassworks Antiques in Haydenville; floral designer at Main Street Florist and River Bend Gardens for many years, which she also designed for many friends' and relatives' special occasions and did flower arrangements for her church for over 25 years; janitor for the Goshen Center School for 11 years; and she was a member of the Goshen Women's Club, as well as past president.

Carolyn was very active in her church, and supported it for some 50 years. She was a past superintendent of the Goshen Congregational Church's Sunday school and was also a Deaconess for over 25 years. She was a member of the LBA of the church, as well as one of their past presidents. She used to teach Sunday school as well as Vacation Bible School during the summer. She was instrumental in running the Goshen Flower Show; an annual fundraising event loved by many, for over 40 years, both by writing the flower show booklet and working tirelessly with set up, obtaining judges, and cooking and serving meals. Many times, she won the Silver cup for her flower arrangements.

She also worked extensively on the Annual Church Fair, utilizing her craft, floral designing and sewing abilities to benefit the church. Carolyn was also the Superintendent of the Lower Hall of the Cummington Fair in Cummington for many, many years. She loved assisting at the fair, as well as being an exhibitor at the fair. She was also a member of the Plainfield Grange, helping them win several blue ribbons at numerous fairs.

In addition to all of the above, she was a former 4-H Leader, teaching gardening and sewing, and was a Den Mother for the Goshen Cub Scouts. In addition, Carolyn was a previous member of the Goshen Historical Society. She worked on the special 200th anniversary quilt, and helped to organize the town's special 200th anniversary celebration. Finally, Carolyn was an avid square dancer and organized square dances, held in Goshen, for many years. She also taught Tai Chi.

Carolyn Carver has touched the lives of many people, not only in the town of Goshen, but also in several of the Hilltowns. She served tirelessly to help others and was always ready to lend a hand when needed. Everyone, especially her family, who loved her dearly, will sorely miss her and her smiling face.

She leaves her husband of 58 years, Ernest H. Carver, Jr., who she married on Aug. 25, 1951; her son, Gary Carver of Flemington, N.J., and Wilminton, Vt.; and her daughter, Fern Michonski of Simsbury, Conn.; three brothers, Sydney Andrews of Savoy, Mass., Kenneth Andrews of Northampton and Dale Andrews of Turners Falls; two sisters, Phyllis Gawle of Easthampton and Carey Rae of Montville and Savoy, Mass.; as well as five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Chesterfield Congregational Church. There are no calling hours. The Boucher-O'Brien Funeral Home is handling her arrangements.

Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 59 Bobala Drive, Holyoke, MA 01040.
