A. Peter Jekanowski Jr., proud family farmer
HADLEY - A. Peter Jekanowski Jr., 69, of 38 Roosevelt St., passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 4, 2009, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
He was born in Northampton on Oct. 30, 1940, the son of the late Anthony P. and Frances (Szafir) Jekanowski Sr. He was raised and educated in Hadley, attended local schools and graduated from Hopkins Academy in 1959.
He was a proud third-generation farmer, raising tobacco, potatoes and many other vegetables on land that his father and grandfather had worked before him. He was a devoted communicant of Most Holy Redeemer Church in Hadley.
A son, Peter Jekanowski, passed away in 2001. He leaves his beloved wife, Sally (Opielowski) Jekanowski; his four sons, Gary and his wife Patricia of Roselle Park, N.J., Mark and his wife Regina of Arlington, Va., Paul and his wife Erin of Hadley and Kevin of Hadley.
He also leaves four grandchildren, Luke, Amelia, Eli and Seth; his brothers, John Jekanowski of Hadley and Atty. Leonard Jekanowski of Williamsburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours at the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton will be on Saturday morning from 8 to 10 a.m. followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Most Holy Redeemer Church in Hadley. Burial will follow in St. Brigid's Cemetery in Amherst.
