Pioneer Regional goalkeeper Joe Larson stopped a penalty kick by Sam Cummings of Gateway Regional in the 75th minute and kept the Gators from a share of the McGrath South title with a 0-0 tie in Northfield Wednesday afternoon.

Cummings, who leads Gateway with 10 goals this season, earned the penalty kick by drawing a foul in the box.

Goalie Gabe Craig made 16 saves for the Gators' 10th shutout of the year and fourth in a row.

Larson finished with 10 saves for the Panthers (7-7-4, 2-3-3), who needed a tie or a win to clinch a postseason berth.

The Gators finished the regular season 10-2-4 overall (3-1-4 McGrath South).

Hopkins Academy (11-2-5, 4-1-3) and Smith Academy (13-2-3, 4-1-3) shared the league championship.
