Why not a fantasy league for Northampton politics?
To the editor:
It is easy for us to "Monday morning quarterback" and dissect comments and decisions made by our elected officials.
In some circles I swear it has even become a sport. As a matter of fact, I am considering starting a Fantasy Northampton Government League.
Think about it.
We could have a draft at the beginning of a campaign season and meet at Joe's Café once a week to pick our "players."
Points would be based on how many articles were written about your "players," how many times your players were trashed at a City Council meeting, points for debate wins, number of public appearances, using certain catch phrases like "it was a home run" or "the committee really stepped up to the plate" (negative points there of course).
Bonus points would be earned for tough decisions right for the city, but not popular with the masses. Extra credit for displaying quiet strength and thinking for the long-term health of the city and not just the hot topic.
I would also be honored to have Clare Higgins heading up my starting roster. Based on the criteria above, she would by far get me the most Fantasy points.
