Top golfer takes his game to Yale
Sean Gaudette has ruled western Massachusetts golf courses for the last three years.
Next year, he'll take his game to Yale University.
The senior, who lives in South Hadley and attends Hopkins Academy, verbally committed to play for the Ivy League school on Thursday night.
Bulldogs are 21-time NCAA national champions, beginning in 1897.
Gaudette is a three-time western Massachusetts individual champion, tying for first in Division 3 for Hopkins in 2008 and in Division 1 while a sophomore at South Hadley in 2007.
On Monday, he shot a even-par 72 at Country Club of Greenfield for his third individual title, while also leading the Golden Hawks to the sectional team championship.
Gaudette and Hopkins will play in the Division 3 state championship at Wyantenuck Golf Club in Great Barrington on Monday.
During the regular season this year, he averaged 36.7 per round, the best in the region for the third consecutive year. Gaudette also was 1.05 against par, also tops in western Massachusetts.
He averaged 35.7 per round in 2008 and 36.6 in 2007.
