Sees Higgins as tested leader right for times

To the editor:

I have been a Northampton resident since 1996. During this time, I have had reason to support both Clare Higgins and Michael Bardsley in their political careers. I think of them both as fair-minded and progressive, with similar values to my own.

That being said, I thought that this year's mayoral race would be particularly difficult for me. However, after attending several of the recent debates, it is clear to me that Higgins is the best candidate. She has the leadership skills necessary to maintain a steady and sure course as our community weathers the turbulent economy.

Clare has demonstrated a remarkable depth of knowledge in available state/federal funds and programs that offer tangible support to the city and our budget. She garners deep respect and has long-cultivated relationships which will continue to prove invaluable for Northampton in the coming years. Bardsley speaks of change, transparency and inclusiveness - nice words, but provides few, if any, concrete solutions to the difficult issues ahead for the city. We can't afford to wait out the learning curve that he would require. We need the continued, forward thinking stewardship Clare Higgins provides.
