Sienna restaurant appears to have closed in Deerfield

DEERFIELD - Been wondering what happened to South Deerfield's Sienna restaurant?

"We are, too," said Deerfield Town Administrator Bernard Kubiak.

The restaurant, located at 6B Elm St., is locked and has apparently not been open for several weeks now, according to Kubiak.

Kubiak said certified letters were sent to the two addresses on file for the current owner of the business, Karl Braverman, and both were returned as undeliverable, according to Kubiak.

"We're in a puzzle," Kubiak said.

Calls to the restaurant are answered by a recording stating that the number is "unable to receive calls." Attempts to contact Braverman have been unsuccessful.

"Anecdotally, I've heard that business had slowed there, that they were open fewer and fewer days and that they're closed now," Kubiak said.

The Deerfield Assessor's office lists Richard and Julie Neylon of Hadley as the owners of the building, which was purchased in 1989.

The Neylons could not be reached for comment.

At issue for the town is the fate of the liquor license held by Braverman.

According to Kubiak, because there are a set number of licenses available, holders cannot let one sit dormant. Kubiak said that under the circumstances the license will not be renewed for 2010.
