UMass blanked for eighth time

The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team suffered its eighth shutout of the season in a 3-0 loss at Dayton Sunday.

The Flyers (12-0-5, 8-0-1 Atlantic 10) scored just one minute, 28 seconds into the game, and remained one of two undefeated teams in the country. Lauren Luckey made nine saves in goal for the Minutewomen (4-10-2, 3-6-0 A-10) who were outshot 22-7.

UMass hosts George Washington at 2:30 p.m. Friday on Rudd Field.

Amherst 2, Wesleyan 0 - Jackie Hirsch scored both goals for the 11th-ranked Jeffs (11-2, 7-1 New England Small College Athletic Conference) who won Saturday in Amherst.

Amherst goaltender Allie Horwitz made four saves and extended her personal shutout streak to 476 minutes.

Mount Holyoke 1, MIT 1 - Senior Jesse Sugrue of Belchertown assisted on the game-tying goal by Jacquelyn Archibald at 33:35 for the Lyons (3-11-1, 2-5-1 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference) who earned their first tie in three years Saturday in South hadley.

Ingibjorg Magnusdottir made 12 saves in goal for Mount Holyoke.

Wheaton 2, Smith 0 - Lindsey Gregor made six saves in goal for the Pioneers (3-11-1, 2-5-1 NEWMAC) who were outshot 21-4 in the loss Saturday in Norton.

Men's soccer

Rhode Island 1, UMass 0 - Thomas Lindroos scored on a header at 12:34 seconds for the Rams (6-7-1, 3-2 Atlantic 10) who had a 13-8 shot advantage over the Minutemen (5-5-3, 2-3 A-10) Saturday at Rudd Field.

Chris Piekos made two saves in goal for UMass.

The Minutemen host Duquesne at noon Friday at Rudd Field.

Amherst 3, Saint Joseph's (Maine) 0; Amherst 0, Wesleyan 0 (2 OT) - The Jeffs (10-2-1, 5-2-1 NESCAC) extended their shutout streak to seven games with a win and a tie at home during the weekend.

Spencer Noon (one assist), Casey McNamara and Ryan Conti scored for Amherst in the win Sunday over the Monks (10-7-1).

Ansel Orr (no saves) and Lennard Kovacs (one save) split time in goal for Amherst.

Kovacs made three saves in Saturday's tie with the fifth-ranked and undefeated Cardinals (9-0-4, 5-0-3 NESCAC).

Westfield State 1, Salem State 0 - Sophomore midfielder Justin Laliberte of Easthampton had an assist on the only goal of the game for the Owls (7-7-1, 5-1 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference) who won Saturday in Salem.

Elms College 3, Southern Vermont 2 (OT) - Junior midfielder Courtney Johnson of Belchertown had an assist on the first goal by Chris Silva for the Blazers (4-12, 2-4 New England Collegiate Conference) who won Saturday in Chicopee.

Silva also scored the overtime goal for Elms which rallied from a 2-0 deficit to end a four-game losing streak.
