OT loss for Minutewomen at Xavier
Brittany Green gave the Xavier women's soccer team a 2-1 overtime win over the University of Massachusetts when she scored her second goal of the night at 90 minutes, 38 seconds Friday in Cincinnati.
Midfielder Therese Smith sent the game into overtime when she scored with two minutes remaining in regulation for the Minutewomen (4-9-2. 3-5 Atlantic 10).
Green's first goal at 54:41 gave the Musketeers (3-13-1, 2-6-1) a 1-0 lead.
UMass goalie Emily Cota made five saves.
The Minutewomen play their final road game of the regular season at 1 p.m. Sunday at Dayton.
Field hockey
Richmond 1, UMass 0 - The No. 16 Minutewomen (9-7, 0-3 Atlantic 10) failed to generate any offense and were outshot 10-5 at Garber Field as they lost their fourth straight game.
Catelin Peterson scored for the Spiders (10-7. 4-0 A-10) at 52:10 seconds when she beat UMass goalie Alesha Widdall (five saves) on the left side of the circle.
UMass plays at Saint Louis at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Women's volleyball
Amherst, 3 Springfield 2 - The Jeffs (18-4) advanced to the semifinals of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament gold bracket with the come-from behind 19-25, 25-21, 25-15, 23-25, 15-11 win at Smith College in Northampton.
Amherst will play Williams at noon Saturday in the semifinals.
The Jeffs were led by Cristy Meier with 19 kills. Laura Hyman (13 blocks) and Katherine Kanoff had 10 kills each, and Jackie Berkley added eight kills for Amherst.
Rachel Yorke led the Jeffs' defensive effort with 24 digs and Katherine Jordan had 40 assists.
