Temple pulls out close win over Minutemen
Tyler Witmer scored after 104 minutes, 22 seconds to give the Temple men's soccer team a 1-0 win over the University of Massachusetts Friday afternoon at Rudd Field.
The winning goal for the Owls (7-4-1, 2-0 Atlantic 10) came in the second overtime.
The Minutemen (4-4-3, 1-2 A-10) outshot Temple 5-2 in the overtimes, but the Owls had a 14-12 shot advantage overall.
Field hockey
Saint Joseph's 3, UMass 0 - The 10th-ranked Minutewomen (9-5, 0-1 A-10) trailed 2-0 at halftime despite having an 11-2 shot advantage.
Anne Schreuders scored all three goals for the Hawks (5-7, 2-0 A-10).
Makaela Potts and Jill Powers each had four shots for UMass, which finished by outshooting Saint Joseph's 15-8.
Mount Holyoke 2, Babson 0 - Peggy Wefald and Mary Kate Switchenko scored for the Lyons (7-5, 3-3 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference) who won in South Hadley.
Katie Gibson made five saves in goal for Mount Holyoke for her third shutout of the season.
Women's volleyball
Connecticut College 3, Amherst 1 - The Jeffs (15-4, 4-2 New England Small College Athletic Conference) lost 25-20, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21 in Hartford, Conn.
Cristy Meier and Katherine Kanoff led Amherst with 11 kills apiece.
