Minutemen lose in double OT
The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team suffered its first Atlantic 10 loss Sunday, 1-0 in double overtime game at Dayton.
Alex Torda scored at 106 minutes, 32 seconds on an assist from Evan McCreary for the Flyers (7-3-1, 2-0 A-10).
Dayton had a 17-10 shot advantage over the Minutemen (4-3-3, 1-1 A-10). Chris Roswess had two of the four shots on goal for UMass.
Goalkeeper Chris Piekos saved a career-high eight saves for the Minutemen.
UMass hosts Temple at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Rudd Field.
Amherst 3, Middlebury 0 - Spencer Noon and Ian Rothkopf each had a goal and an assist for the Jeffs (6-2, 3-2 New England Small College Athletic Conference) who won Saturday in Amherst.
James Mooney scored the final goal for Amherst, which outshot the Panthers 10-6.
Jeffs goalie Lennard Kovacs made four saves.
Women's soccer
Fordham 3, UMass 2 (OT) - Therese Smith had a goal and an assist as the Minutewomen (3-8-2, 2-4 A-10) tied the Rams before losing in overtime Sunday in Amherst.
Leah Loguidice scored an unassisted goal at 97:26 to win the game for Fordham (4-10-1, 3-3 A-10).
Sydney Stoll tied the game for UMass at 75:37.
Emily Cota made two saves in goal for the minutewomen.
UMass hosts Rhode island at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Amherst 2, Bates 0; Amherst 6, Middlebury 1 - Kathryn Nathan scored her fourth goal of the season for the Jeffs (7-2, 5-1 NESCAC) who shut out the Bobcats Sunday in Amherst.
Amherst took a 1-0 lead on an own goal.
Allie Horwitz made three saves in goal for the Jeffs, who outshot bates 34-5.
On Saturday, also in Amherst, Jill Kochanek scored two goals for the Jeffs in the win over the Panthers.
Emily Little added a goal and an assist for Amherst, and Livia Rizzo, Hannah Cooper and Kyla Woodhouse had the other goals.
Horwitz (seven saves) and Claire Bennett (three) combined in goal for the Jeffs, who were outshot 18-17.
Smith 3, Coast Guard 0 - Etta Grover-Silva scored two goals for the Pioneers (3-7-1, 2-1-1 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference) who won Saturday in Northampton.
Ellie Theurer scored the first goal for Smith.
Lindsey Gregor made five saves in goal for the Pioneers, who had a 25-7 advantage in shots.
WPI 1, Mount Holyoke 0 - The Engineers (5-8, 1-3 NEWMAC) scored at 29:10 to win Saturday in Worcester.
Ingibjorg Magnusdottir made two saves in goal for the Lyons (1-10, 0-4 NEWMAC) who had a 13-9 advantage in shots.
